Overnight and tomorrow morning, we are expecting a significant amount of snow to fall across much of Derbyshire. There is an amber weather warning covering the county, and it is essential that members of the public adhere to the advice provided by the emergency services, councils and other agencies. Our most important piece of advice is – stay at home. If you don’t absolutely need to travel on the roads, then stay off them. If you do need to make an essential journey, plan extra time and stick to main routes. Some roads in Derbyshire are already becoming treacherous due to black ice or snow that has already fallen. Already today, Derbyshire County Council’s gritting fleet has been out in force treating as many roads as they can, and that work will continue throughout the night and tomorrow. This afternoon, we’ve been meeting with representatives from the fire service, EMAS and the county council to go over our plans, so we’re best placed to help anyone who needs us during the bad weather. Mountain rescue volunteers are also on standby to help the emergency services and those in need of assistance. We will be posting updates on our social media feeds and website as the situation progresses, as will our partner agencies. Please pay attention to these. We would like to reiterate again – if your journey is not absolutely essential then please stay at home, and stay safe.
